Rail Travel in Western Canada
Canada is a wonderful place to travel by rail and there are two companies that offer this service. A brief overview is provided. Please see “Vacations” for additional details.
- Rocky Mountaineer Railtour - This daylight rail excursion offers 5 routes through the Provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. Two classes of service include Goldleaf Dome & Redleaf Class. Travellers stop mid-way to overnight in hotel accommodation before continuing to their destination the following day. These trains depart three days a week and operate in both a west and eastbound direction.
- Whistler Mountaineer - This service includes the Classic Rail or Glacier Dome passenger service. Daily departures provide travellers with the opportunity to visit Whistler, B.C. during the summer months. Since Whistler is a walking village, it is a great way to relax and enjoy travel between Vancouver and Whistler.
- VIA Rail Canada - This is the original, very historic railtour that provides transportation between Toronto and Vancouver. VIA's Silver and Blue Service provides private sleeping accommodations, public dome cars and dining cars. Trains run three days a week in both an east and westbound direction.
